About us

On the bases of building faculty of Kharkov Polytechnic Institute and architectural faculty of Kharkov Art Institute the Kharkov Engineering-Building Institute (KEBI) was founded in 1930, it is from where the history of Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics began. In 1934 Kharkov Geodetic Institute and Scientific Research Institute of Geodesy and Cartography joined the structure of the institute. Within 10 years Kharkov Engineering Building Institute (KEBI) became the largest higher education institution of Ukraine including1734 students, 200 teachers and 4 faculties: Architectural, Building, Sanitary and Geodetic. In 1966 it was given the name of Kharkov Institute of Radio electronics (KIRE) and soon after the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1993 the institute got the status of University and became Kharkov Technical University of Radio electronics (KTURE). In 2001 the status of the University was upgraded to the National University.

The university offers a big variety of educational programs in engineering, IT and humanities from bachelor to post-doctoral degree. It trains over 11,000 students in different educational levels. It has 23 Bachelor and 23 Master programs and also offers a wide range of PhD studies.

The university has strong research and education capabilities in electrical engineering, telecommunications, electronics, ICT and computer technologies.

The university is located in Kharkov which is a city situated in the north-eastern part of Ukraine. It is the 2nd largest city after Kiev and the first capital of the country. Kharkov is the second largest in Ukraine on educational and scientific potential. The city consists of 13 national universities and numerous technical, professional, and private higher education institutions, offering its students a wide range of disciplines. The city has a high concentration of research institutions, which are independent or loosely connected with the universities.

Kharkov is famous as large industrial centre of Ukraine with productive capacity of the enterprises is high-tech industries: electrical engineering, transport and agriculture engineering, instrumentation, power engineering, electronics, aerospace.

University is working towards the betterment of educational system annually and result of it the University ranks first among technical universities of Ukraine by the results of the rankings made by the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine (according to “Education of Ukraine” №26 (1295) of 25 June 2012 and the website ).

Among the top 200 universities the university has retained its place since last year and ranks 15th among higher educational institutions of Ukraine and 2nd in Eastern Ukraine. The University runs 16th among Ukrainian higher educational institutions in the rankings of scientometrical database Scopus.

Strong cooperation within TEMPUS, INTAS, INCO-Copernicus, EU Joint- and Double-Degree Master programs, etc. allowed KNURE to become one of the first HEIs in Ukraine which introduced the Bologna principles and ECTS to its practices.
