Sumy State University is located in Sumy city, in the historical region of Slobodan Ukraine. Sumy is a regional town situated upon the Psel River and its tributary Sumka. It’s a city located in north-eastern Ukraine, and the capital of the Sumy Oblast (region).
The Sumy State University was established in 1948. Presently, SSU is one of the leading universities of a classical type with the III-IV accreditation level in the region. Among the Ukrainian institutes of higher education Sumy State University ranks 6th in worldwide Internet rankings according to Webometrics and 4ICU as on July 2012. Sumy State University listed the TOP-5 best universities in Ukraine and the TOP-700 best universities in the world. In 2014 Sumy State University became the first Ukrainian higher education institution which passed an independent external analyses of the QS Company and was given the highest points (5 stars) in various categories as Teaching, Engagement, Access, and E-learning. Sumy State University holds the 4th position among Ukrainian universities and is included to the TOP-10% universities worldwide, in accordance with University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), evaluating the quality of academic achievement of world’s universities.
Sumy State University (SSU) provides a vast range of educational programs in Medicine (MBBS) Engineering, IT and humanities from bachelor to post-doctoral degree. Today the University serves more than 16,000 students who are ensuing pre bachelor, bachelor, specialist and master degrees in 43 majors and 21 fields of knowledge according to the listing of majors 2015. At present, about 1,400 foreign students at SSU represent more than 50 countries worldwide. For foreign students to succeed comfortably in studies the Preparatory Department at SSU offers Russian and Ukrainian language courses to help students. Whereas the majors courses such as Medicine (MBBS), Computer Science and Management are taught in English
SSU is a respectable partner of programmes that grant international importance/value and projects of the EU (Tempus, Erasmus Mundus, Youth in Action), the World Bank ,the United Nations Development Programme, bilateral scientific and research projects, grants of private foundations. Amount of research work as part of international grant projects has increased in about 25 times for the last 5 years. Sumy State University is also a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum and reliable partner of Eurasian Association of Universities, European University Association, International Association of Universities, the World Health Organization, Association of Economic Universities of South and Eastern Europe and the Black sea Region, International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences (AIESEC) and other international organizations. University collaborates with about 200 partners from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Romania, France, Belgium, Sweden, China, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Japan, South Korea, the Russian Federation and other countries of the world. . Every year Sumy State University implements about 450 scientific agreements, contracts and carries out over 70 international grants. SSU is actively working towards the integration of the university into scientific and educational sphere.
